Top 10 Goals of 2022

If you’re feeling drained by 2022, our roundup of the year’s best client goals should bring you fresh inspiration for 2023.

It’s that time of year again! Mariah Carey on repeat, super-extra lawn ornaments, and the ever-important decision of which cocktail you should drink to make your in-laws tolerable.

If you’re feeling drained by 2022, our roundup of the year’s best client goals should bring you fresh inspiration for 2023. We won’t be covering typical stuff, like buying a home or having a baby (though we love those goals, too). Instead, we’ll be highlighting the clients who are getting creative with their financial planning, and are prioritizing everything from exotic travel to charitable causes.

Let this post serve a reminder that financial planning does not have to be boring. Sure, you’ve gotta get the basics in there, like life insurance and saving for retirement. But beyond those, you can and should plan for what you want out of life, others’ expectations be damned.

So grab a drink, browse this list, and then come up with some unique goals of your own. We’ll be waiting for you in 2023.

10. Renting a house in Italy: $20,000

This client’s insanely fabulous trip infected us with the travel bug (no, not THAT travel bug). A big house in the country, vineyards for days, and all the wine you can drink…now that’s something worth planning for.

9. Moving out of San Francisco: $5,000

Looks like some form of remote work is here to stay, and HENRYs are taking advantage of it by swapping expensive cities for less pricey pastures. If you are contemplating a move to save money, here’s a guide to help you figure out if it’s worth it.

8. Visit parents in South Korea: $7,500

This one’s a tear jerker. Traveling across the world is NOT cheap, but worth every penny to see loved ones after a long time apart.

7. Yankees Season Tickets: $3,000

Maybe Aaron Judge will pick up the tab for this one, since he turned down a casual $213.5 mil this year. If not, let’s just hope he’s still with the yanks in 2023 to make this goal worth it.

6. Partner's Surprise Birthday Trip: $4,000

Another sweet one! We’re always amazed by the number of clients who are planning to splurge on someone other than themselves.

5. Patio Furniture: $2,500

Home improvement continues to be a top goal of many clients, especially when it comes to outdoor spaces. Whether you’re entertaining or just lounging solo, nothing says HENRY like a chic outdoor sitting area.

4. Kitchen renovation: $25,000

Another big reno splurge is the kitchen. This one says a lot about our generation’s values—a gorgeous yet comfortable spot to gather with loved ones and prepare good food (with clever storage as an added bonus). A new kitchen can also be a major boost to the value of your home should you ever want to sell.

3. Astrophotography Setup: $10,000

Not gonna lie, we had to Google this one, but it’s really cool. The equipment is very expensive but the images of the galaxy this client will be able to capture could be priceless.

2. Egg Freezing: $20,000

A savvy move for anyone who isn’t ready for kids right now but may want them in the future, egg freezing involves extracting eggs from a woman’s ovaries and storing them until she’s ready to conceive. This is especially common for women with certain current or prior health conditions that may affect fertility.

1. Scholarships for underprivileged students: $1,000,000

Needless to say, this incredibly generous goal blew our minds. One of the best parts of our job is watching our clients become so successful that they can use their wealth to make a positive difference. Bravo to these clients!

And that’s a big bow on another year. We wish you and yours a very happy holiday season. See you all next year.
