Ep 82 | The Best Money Lessons from Season One

In this episode, Priya marks the close of Season One with episode 82, and explains why she's pausing the podcast to focus on building a new piece of budgeting software. Instead of a typical topic breakdown, she revisits the five Season One episodes she thinks will do the most for your financial future than your next raise. She throws in a bonus favorite on dating below your ambitions, and crowns a new champion in her Best Bite segment.

Takeaways:

  • Building wealth is about thousands of small decisions that create a foundation strong enough to stand on.

  • Treating homeownership as a default milestone can work against high earners who have other paths to build net worth.

  • Understanding the life you can afford boils down to one number.

  • Understanding how your financial advisor gets paid shapes the advice you get.

Why Is Priya Malani Ending Season One at Episode 82?

Hey guys, welcome back to The F Word. I'm your host, Priya Malani, and if you're in your 30s making six figures, you're in the right place. Today marks episode 82 and the official close of season one. 82 feels like kind of an odd number, so I'm gonna tell you why I'm stopping here. The reason is because I'm getting ready to work on some software that I'm pretty excited about.

What's Next for Priya Malani After The F Word Season One?

I think it's gonna change the way that people think about budgeting. Given the fact that a podcast is a lot to create, I don't wanna shortchange the time I'm able to dedicate, and the only way to really truly do something well is to focus. So I won't be able to focus on the podcast until I get this bit of software done.

So that's the reason.

What Financial Topics Did Season One of The F Word Cover?

Now, over the past 82 episodes, we've covered everything from why budgeting doesn't work to whether Bitcoin deserves a place in your portfolio, all through the lens of a high-earning 30-something. Whether you're just discovering the show or you've missed a few episodes, I thought it would be nice to wrap up the season by highlighting a handful of episodes that I think will have the biggest impact on your money, so how you're living your life.

Where Should You Start If You're New to The F Word?

I hope you'll eventually go back and listen to all of them, but if you're looking for the best place to start, this is it. Let's get into it. Who the am I to tell you what to do with your money? My name is Priya Malani, currently managing millions of hardworking dollars. Enough foreplay, let's talk money.

Welcome to The F Word: Smart Money, No Bull.

What Is Priya Malani's Philosophy on Building Wealth?

Before we jump in, I wanna leave you with a thought. It's widely cited that the average person makes around 35,000 decisions every single day. Most of them are small. Some of them change the course of your life. Same is true with money. Building wealth isn't about making one perfect financial decision.

Why Getting Your Finances Together in Your 30s Matters

It's about thousands of small decisions that create a financial foundation strong enough for you to stand on, one that brings security, freedom, and choice into your life. And getting your financial sh*t together in your 30s isn't just about you. It's about the opportunities you'll create for your future family, the kind of partner you'll be able to be, the life you'll be able to build.

None of this is taught in school, but it's also not complicated. Anyone can learn it. With that, here are my top five episodes from season one that I think will do more for your financial future than your next raise.

Episode 7: Are You Saving Too Much for Retirement?

In no particular order, episode seven, why you're probably saving too much for retirement Episode 10.

Episode 10: How to Build a Financial Life With a Partner

If you're building a life with someone else, this episode will help you stop thinking of you versus me, really start thinking and working like a team.

Episode 20: Does Homeownership Automatically Make You Wealthy?

Episode 20, my hot take on why homeownership does not automatically make you wealthy. If every family dinner turns into, "So when are you buying a house?" This one's for you.

Episode 52: What's the One Number That Lets You Stop Budgeting?

Episode 52, the one number that lets you stop budgeting forever and tells you whether you're actually living a lifestyle you can afford. If money anxiety follows you around, start here.

Episode 63: How Do Financial Advisors Get Paid?

Episode 63. This one's personal. I get into the world of financial advisors, how compensation impacts advice, and what we've done at Stash Wealth to actually put clients' interests first. I hope you'll give this one a listen.

Bonus Episode 53: Are You Guilt-Tripping Yourself Into Dating Beneath You?

And then I couldn't help myself. I had to include a bonus episode because it sparked one of the best conversations we've had all season. Episode 53, are you guilt-tripping yourself into dating beneath you? Whether you agreed with me or completely disagreed, this one definitely got people talking. If you have a friend who's ignoring the reality of their dating situation, ambitions aren't quite aligning, and that's something that's important to them, I hope you'll send them this episode.

Priya's Best Bite: Cafe Cluny's Sticky Toffee Pudding

Okay. Before I let you go, it's time for my favorite segment, Best Bite. I've had a lot of guests on lately, so it's been a while since I've actually shared one myself.

Usually, I lean savory over sweet, but a few weeks ago, I had dinner at Cafe Cluny in the West Village in New York, and my bartender, Alex, insisted that I couldn't leave without trying their sticky toffee pudding, one of my all-time favorite desserts. He also recommended a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.

Wasn't about to argue. It was so good. It was rich, but without being overly sweet, and somehow it was lighter than most sticky toffee puddings I've had. So if you're a fan... Well, I should say my favorite, favorite, favorite one for many years belonged to a restaurant that's now closed. It was called Colony in Brooklyn Heights.

And so now we have a new champion, Cafe Cluny's sticky toffee pudding officially takes first place.

What's the Takeaway From Season One of The F Word?

All right, guys. Thank you so much for listening. If season one has taught us anything, it's this: building wealth isn't about finding one perfect investment. It's about making better decisions about your career, your relationships, your spending, your goals, and your future.

Money is one of the most powerful tools you'll ever have, and as a high earner, that power is already in your hands. The only question is, what are you gonna build with this all-powerful tool? If you know someone who's making great money but could probably have a lot more to show for it with just a little bit of thought and intention, I really hope you'd share this episode with them.
